Description
Join the fun in our new Laguna Beach Wine tasting lounge. It’s time for fun and games. Are you ready to test your wits and match them against other members?
We are having another SWIRL • SMELL • SIP • SAVOR tasting event at McClain Cellars and you are invited. This is going to be a lot of fun and we can not wait to kick it off.
If you know a lot about wine or are just starting to learn what is what… this is a fun event that you will love. It’s a blind bag tasting event where you will have a chance to guess aromas, tastes, textures and much more. Depending on how good your taste buds are you can even go home with exciting prizes.
This blind tasting will be unlike any other. There will be multiple rounds including one that invites you to guess the aromas of the wine, the next invites you to guess specific flavor notes like blackberry or vanilla, and then during the final round you take a guess at the varietal of the wine you have been guessing the aromas and tasting notes for.
Do you think you can guess the varietals, tasting notes, and aromas?? Prizes will be awarded to the groups who can identify the correct tasting notes! As an added bonus Jason McClain, our owner and wine maker will be guiding you through the rounds!
This event is not something you want to miss. You will get to taste a variety of exciting wines, work as a team to guess what you’re tasting, and learn about how to identify different tasting notes from the wine maker himself!
So what will be doing… First we will teach you how to really enjoy wine by doing the following:
SMELL:
Put your nose in the glass. Take a deep breath. You are looking for three aromas. The primary aroma comes from the grape and the climate. The secondary aroma comes from the fermentation process. The tertiary aroma comes from the aging process of the wine. After you smell it say, ‘’It was a very warm summer… oak barrels…. and a hint of. ________.’’ Just pick the name of a fruit and fill in the blank. People will think you are really a trained professional.
SWIRL:
Spin your glass around in a circle. This not only looks cool but also lets oxygen in the glass to release the aromas of the wine. The more you spin the glass, the smarter you will look.
SEE:
Hold the glass at angle and up to the light or against a white surface. Take a long gaze and pretend that you know what you are looking for. The color and opacity of wine can tell you about the alcohol level, sugar and the grape varietal. This is also known as wine legs. Look at your friends and say… ‘’Would you look at the legs on this one. Oooooh La La! I‘m in heaven’.
SAVOR:
Now here comes the really important part. Close your eyes and take a sip. Wait 5 seconds and keep your eyes closed. Then… look up toward the sky with a long gaze. Take a second sip. Then look to your friends and say. ‘’Ohhhhh That was good.’’
THEN…. HAVE EVEN MORE FUN WITH THE WINES.
ARE YOU READY to have fun and win some prizes???? You will be discovering different wines without having a clue what they are. You will be picking out different aromas and much more. The closer you are to what they are… the more prizes you can win. 🙂
